RADIATING HEAT IS MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT!

Convection versus Radiating

Heat Efficiency Comparison

We are so used to radiators that it takes a little time to comprehend alternatives. Think for a second of a cool day with a temperature of, say, 10 degrees C. When the sun makes an appearance you feel instantly warmer; but as soon as a cloud arrives the pleasant sensation of warmth disappears. This 'radiation' effect brings heat to the object. It is the central principle behind the energy efficiency of our MediTherm® range; you can feel the same warmth in a Meditherm® room 2-3 degrees cooler than if it were heated conventionally. The heating is spread over a larger area providing a more balanced distribution.

Higher Output

The maximum heat transmission under-floor heating systems can provide is 80-100 W/m2, because the temperature of the floor cannot be higher than 29 °C, due to the sensitivity of the feet and for other health reasons. By contrast, the temperature of the water that is circulated in the Meditherm® system is 40-45 °C so the temperature of the wall surface is much higher (38-40 °C).

Consequently, heat transmission can be as high as 200-240 W/m2. as a result, the heat demand of buildings can usually be met by using the available wall surfaces, in case of higher demands, the Meditherm® system can also be used fro heating floors and ceilings (using 6mm outer diameter pipes).

Our system does not require radiators. Instead we install just enough area of pipework to generate the required heat for a room. This can be installed within the wall surface, or underfloor or in the ceiling.

The network of piping is simple and no more complex than traditional plumbing.

  • Distribution pipework - 20mm diameter connects to the main heat source (e.g. gas boilder, heat pump, solar collectors) and is run to each room.
  • Internal pipework - 6mm diameter. Most commonly supplied pre-assembled built in to plasterboard, which can be insulated or supplied with heat reflecting foil on the back.

If you let us know a little information on your project we can quickly calculate the area of internal heating (and cooling) required and provide you with a full costed quotation for everything you need to install your Build4 system. Click to get your Quote.

The pre-assembled plasterboard is installed as normal and the tails from the surface pipework are connected to the main distribution pipework using T fittings.
